Priests in Wrath: gear, enchants, gems and consumables
Ok, yeah, I know that’s a long title, but it says what it needs to. How could I have ever propped quite that much info into a cool, funny Cosmo title?
Anyway. I’ve been playing like mad since Wrath came out. Av’s been 80 for a while. Everything’s starting to make sense. I can now actually make a gear upgrade list because there really aren’t that many big upgrades left. During that time, I was reading most of my WoW blog list, though, and I wanted to take the time to highlight the stuff that’s helped me most.
Gear
A few things really gave me a lot of help when figuring out my gear. Admittedly, I was feeling pretty lost, after knowing my exact upgrade path through BT and SWP in BC… there was just so much!
The Best Holy Priest Healing Gear
Dwarf Priest writes amazing articles. I used her gear list for BC and I was incredibly relieved when she brought out this one for Wrath. Because of how she weights the gear, I figured out how weighting actually works in WoW. Sometimes an item isn’t on the list, but it’s still an excellent way of getting your bearings.

Wowhead Compare
Wowhead has had the ability to compare items for a few months now. I was so thrilled when this came out, because it meant I could stop putting things in a spreadsheet to compare. When I wanted to take a look and see how the different trinkets actually compared (BC ones, the one I’d picked up in Strat and the one I wanted to get from badges), all I had to do was set up the compare functionality and I got a great overview. It also has a preconfigured weight system for holy priests. If you’re not using this, then you should be.
Gems
I used to have the Wowwiki page with all the gems bookmarked in Delicious. I’d just type in “gem” go to the page and figure it out. But Jov has put together a wonderful guide to all the different gems you could use as a priest and a good description of why you’d use that one. Now I just have this page bookmarked and use it every time I need a gem. Yes, it’s really that good.
You’ve got the gear– Now what?
Enchants
Ok, what I just said about the article about gems goes for enchants, too. I just looked everything up on Wowwiki on the page enchants by slot. But why in the world would I want to wade through all those different enchants (the list is huge, these days) when I can see the best enchants for priests. Not only that, but Jov also tells us exactly where you get the enchant and what it costs. No more clicking through to Wowhead to figure it out.
Did I mention I love this page?

Consumables
When Wrath first came out, I was completely lost when it came to consumables. Why couldn’t I just keep using my favorite old cocktail of Elixir of Healing Power and Elixir of Draenic Wisdom? Well, I probably could have, but then I would have been stuck in the Stone Age.
Raiding consumables for Discipline and Holy priests
This was the first article I used, which came out on 21 November. It was literally the one that at least gave me a direction and made sure I didn’t feel like I was taking attack power food during raids. I wish it had said something about Pickled Fangtooth, but ok. I’m glad it was written.
A Quick and Dirty Guide to Consumables at 80
And it’s Jov to the rescue yet again! She does an excellent job with a description of pretty much all the different pots, elixirs, flasks and food that are useful for a priest. She also even mentions that mana oil is no longer applicable. I don’t need this list much anymore, but it’s still great to be able to go back and see if there are things I missed.
Applause to World of Snarkcraft!
I just wanted to applaud Jov and Seri over at World of Snarkcraft for the excellent resource they’re providing to the WoW world. I love it when they put up new articles, whether they’re snarky or informative (or some strange combination). Snarkcraft is in my Google Reader - if you haven’t seen it before, I strongly suggest you go take a look.
